Field
Hockey Balls:
Hockey balls were originally cricket balls painted white - same weight and dimensions and a seam!!!! They are now plastic can be hollow or with a core, plain or dimpled.
The dimpled field hockey ball was developed for use on water based
astroturf pitches, however, in Britain most players and umpires insist
on using dimpled balls on all artificial pitches. ![]()
PLAYERS
are unaware that the best hockey ball to use on sand based pitches is
a plain match ball, which is less expensive for clubs to buy!! (This
situation is made worse by Umpires insistence on the use of Dimpled
balls).
Hockey
balls are still the same weight and dimensions as a cricket ball - oh
yes and no seam.
